Hi, I’m Billie!
I’m passionate about living a full, energetic, adventurous, meaningful life, driven by community contribution. Since my mid-20s, I’ve considered myself a “citizen of the world.” I think it’s because I’m lucky to have two homes—Austria, where I grew up, and Oregon, where I’ve raised a family and enjoyed a long career in tourism and the arts.
For the last forty years, I’ve worked on four continents, traveling and working regularly with many international partners. A deep curiosity and desire to learn drives everything I do and informs my open approach to cultural understanding and the role tourism and the arts play in community vitality.
On a personal level, art enhances my daily life. My favorite visual art is glass art and my favorite performing art form is dance. The intense physicality and beautiful, ethereal results of both are appealing to me.
My spirit comes alive in the outdoors! I seek adventure and enjoy challenging myself to the fullest of my athletic capabilities. As an avid skier (Austrians aren’t exactly born with skis on their feet, but almost…). My favorite non-winter adventure was hiking the historic Chilkoot Trail in southeast Alaska with two friends. It was my first multiple-night camping trek. The challenge of it, the wilderness, the awe-inspiring landscape– what an experience!
